Brain Health = Your Health

Make 2019 the year that you take optimal care of your brain! Here are 5 easy ways you can help improve the function of your brain… and remember you’re never too old to start!

1. Increase Blood Flow

Your body does its best when your brain is at its best. Staying active is key in promoting blood flow and releasing good brain chemicals like serotonin to the brain. Keeping up with daily stretching and movement that gets the heart rate up, (i.e. aerobic exercises) is a sure way to help improve brain health.

2. Exercise Your Brain

Doing activities that challenge your memory is a great way to keep your brain in shape. Reading, picking up a new skill, doing puzzles or crocheting are just a few ways you can help exercise your brain.

3. Eat Brain Food

Give your brain the fuel it needs by eating “brain foods”. Eating foods that are rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids and B12 will help you supply your brain with the vitamins and nutrients it needs to function.

4. Get Organized

With our fast-paced schedules, it is no wonder why some of us suffer from confusion, attention disorders, and brain dysfunction. Keeping up with a schedule and handing one task at a time is a good way to keep your brain focused and at ease.
TIP: Follow the OHIO Mantra (Only Handle It Once) to focus on the task at hand.

5. Allow Your Brain to Rest

Giving your brain downtime is crucial to its function. Practicing daily meditation can help alleviate stress and calm hyperactivity. In addition, practicing good sleep hygiene (i.e.: no electronics in bed) and keeping a consistent sleep schedule (7-9 hours a night) is the best way to give your brain the downtime it needs.
